By our assessment, Bmw 2, M2, 3 sits in the small performance-coupé corner of the market: the sort of nameplate people reach for when they want compact size but sharper steering, firmer suspension and rear-drive punch. It is genuinely good at turning an ordinary drive into something alert and mechanical, and the M2 badge carries the usual BMW M promise of stronger brakes, more grip and a harder edge than the regular 2 and 3 series. The trade-off is the same one that comes with most M cars: ride comfort and running costs tend to move the wrong way, and the cabin feel depends on how much stiffness you can live with. In practice this kind of car is eager on a clear road and less relaxed in daily stop-start use. It sits above the standard models and below the more extreme track-focused specials, and the odd catalogue-style name with 2 and 3 baked in is just part of this listing, not a sign of a bigger story.
