Santander

Santander is a retail and commercial bank for ordinary current accounts, mortgages, cards, and branch banking across Spain and a wider international footprint. By our assessment, it is strongest at scale: lots of everyday products, a familiar app, and the kind of banking network that still matters when people want a branch, not just a screen. The downside is the same one that comes with a very large bank: service can feel standardised, fees and product terms need reading closely, and the experience is less personal than at a smaller lender. In practice it looks like a mainstream high-street bank with a digital layer rather than a fintech, so it suits people who want a broad, conventional bank and not a specialised niche service. Santander is judged as a solid mainstream option, and the Spanish base is part of that profile.
