Ocean Spray

Ocean Spray is the cranberry co-op that turned a fairly narrow farm crop into a familiar grocery shelf name. By our assessment, its best-known strength is a simple one: cranberry juice, juice drinks and dried cranberries that many people recognise immediately. The downside is also built in, because the brand is closely tied to sweetened drinks and a single fruit family, which narrows the range more than a broad food company would. In practice it feels like a very specific American pantry brand rather than a sprawling food house. It sits between farm co-operative roots and mass-market packaged drinks, which gives it more identity than a generic juice maker but less breadth than a diversified beverage giant. The US country note fits that history. It is a sensible name for cranberry products, and not much more than that.
