Alphabet

Alphabet is the parent company that sits above Google and a cluster of other bets, so it matters most to people trying to understand the structure behind the search engine, ads, Android, and the rest. By our assessment, it is the cleanest way to talk about that business as a group rather than as one giant product brand. Its real strength is separation: it lets the core Google operation and the longer-shot projects live under one roof without pretending they are the same thing. The trade-off is that the name is less immediate than Google, and outside business or tech contexts it can feel abstract. In practice it is a corporate holding name first and a consumer-facing name never, so most people meet it in financial reporting, news coverage, or company charts. It sits at the top of the modern internet-ad business rather than beside ordinary software firms. The catalog marks it as American, which matches how the company is generally understood.
