Samsara

Samsara asks for slow attention, and it rewards that patience with images that build meaning through repetition, movement, and scale rather than through argument. By our assessment, it is a documentary that works best as a sensory experience about the human world, not as a guide or explanation of it. The strength is obvious: its photography and editing create a strong visual flow, so the film can move from place to place and idea to idea without relying on narration. The downside is just as clear, because viewers looking for facts, interviews, or a tidy thesis may find it too loose and too open-ended. In practice it feels like a long sequence of carefully arranged observations, where sound and image carry the thought. Compared with conventional documentaries, it is less about reporting and more about association. Samsara suits people who enjoy meditative non-fiction cinema, and it can frustrate anyone who wants a straightforward account.
