Tomb Raider II (1997) is the kind of action-adventure that still matters because it helped define a very specific way of moving through ruins: climbing, jumping, swimming, hunting for switches, and piecing together spatial puzzles while fighting along the way. By our assessment, its main strength is that mix of exploration and movement logic, which gives every level a clear physical feel. The downside is also part of its age: fixed cameras, stiff controls, and sudden traps can make it feel harsher than modern action games. In practice it asks for patience and a taste for old-school platforming, with some trial and error around jumps and routes. It sits behind later Tomb Raider games in comfort and presentation, but its place in the series is important because the structure is so recognizable. Tomb Raider II (1997) is for players who want classic puzzle-exploration more than cinematic smoothness, and it shows its age right away in the controls.
