Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is at its best when it lets a single orc captain grow into a rival with a memory. By our assessment, the Nemesis system is the real draw here: enemies remember defeats, return changed, and make the open world feel personal in a way many action games do not. The price is that the rest of the game leans heavily on repetition, especially fortress assaults and the familiar open-world errands around them. In practice it is a power fantasy built on stealth, counter-heavy combat, and recruiting an army instead of just hacking through one. Compared with other Middle-earth action games, it is broader and noisier, but also more mechanical than its fantasy setting might suggest. It suits players who enjoy systems that generate stories, while people wanting a leaner Tolkien adventure may find the structure too busy.
