Honest by design

What each of them is for

Pingdom, part of SolarWinds, has been the reference name in website monitoring for over a decade: uptime checks from a large fleet of probe servers, synthetic transaction monitoring, page-speed reports and real user monitoring, with entry pricing around $10 per month billed annually.

Astrina approaches the same problem from a wider angle: the uptime and synthetic checks are there — seven check kinds, multi-step browser journeys, incident screenshots, checks confirmed from real devices in many countries by the Pulsar network — but they live next to full web analytics with session replay, SEO monitoring and embeddable widgets, under one login and one script tag.

The short answer

The honest split: if all you want is classic uptime monitoring from a specialist with the longest track record, Pingdom does that well and its entry tier costs less. If the same site also needs analytics, SEO and lead capture, one Astrina plan replaces several subscriptions.

Where Pingdom is stronger

Pingdom has run monitoring at scale since 2007: a large dedicated probe fleet, a household name in status emails, and an entry price below ours. If you need exactly one thing — classic uptime monitoring — buying it from a specialist is a perfectly sound choice.

Where Astrina is stronger

One Astrina plan covers what would take Pingdom plus an analytics tool plus an SEO tool plus a widget vendor: monitoring confirmed by real devices around the world, analytics with replay, daily SEO checks and conversion widgets. And there is a free plan to prove it on your own site first.

Questions we hear

Frequently asked questions

Is Astrina cheaper than Pingdom?

Not always, and we will not pretend otherwise. Pingdom Synthetics starts around $10/mo billed annually (their own, dollar pricing); Astrina Pro is €19/mo. The difference is scope: the Astrina plan also includes analytics, SEO monitoring and widgets. The free plan includes a monitor, so the smallest budget is €0.

Can Astrina run multi-step transaction checks like Pingdom?

Yes. A flow monitor opens each step URL in a real browser, executes JavaScript, and asserts expected text step by step, on a schedule — with the failing step named in the alert.

Where do Astrina checks run from?

From our servers and from the Pulsar network — real devices of real participants in many countries. Results only count when several independent devices agree, which is also how false alarms get caught. Coverage grows with the network and the coverage map is public.

How hard is it to switch?

Monitors are one field — a URL. Add the sites, set check intervals and alert channels (email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, webhooks), and you are done; there is nothing to migrate beyond the list of URLs.
