The Dog Whisperer

The Dog Whisperer is a pet-behavior show aimed at owners who want help with leash pulling, fear, barking, and the sort of household chaos dogs can create. By our assessment, its biggest strength is the clear, hands-on focus on training problems that ordinary people actually meet at home. The drawback is that this style of dog advice can feel very personality-driven and a little rigid, because the show leans hard on one trainer’s method and authority. In practice it is part instruction, part before-and-after makeover, with the dog and the owner both being asked to change their habits. Compared with softer family animal shows, it is more corrective and less cuddly. The Dog Whisperer is best for viewers who want practical dog-training television rather than animal bonding as comfort viewing, and it does not try to be a general pet-lifestyle program.
