Scott and Bailey

Scott and Bailey puts the detective partnership first and lets the police work stay grounded, domestic and often a bit bruised. By our assessment, its strength is the combination of procedural crime work with a close look at the pressures on two women doing the job inside a hard-edged force. The downside is that the focus on realism and routine can leave less room for fireworks or big stylistic gestures. In practice it feels attentive, workmanlike and built around interviews, evidence and the emotional spillover of the cases. It belongs with British police dramas that care more about character and labour than about spectacle. Scott and Bailey is a strong choice for viewers who want crime television that keeps its feet on the floor and its emotions earned.
