Rick and Morty runs on a nasty mix of science-fiction ideas, black comedy, and family fallout, and that mix is what makes it different from cleaner animated sitcoms. The show gives viewers a lot of dense plotting, rapid callbacks, and a willingness to let the multiverse go genuinely stupid.
