Night Court

Night Court turns a courtroom into a comic waiting room, and that is still its best trick. By our assessment, the show works because the legal setting gives it a steady frame while the characters and oddball cases let it stay loose and noisy. The upside is a brisk, highly playable setup for jokes, with instant variety from one episode to the next. The trade-off is that the law is mostly a backdrop, so anyone looking for realism or serious procedure will miss the point fast. In practice it feels like a punchy ensemble sitcom that keeps returning to the same room and making it feel different. Night Court sits comfortably among broad workplace comedies, but it uses the courthouse as a joke machine rather than as a place of legal drama. The series is at its best when the bench becomes a stage for chaos.
