Mortal Kombat: Conquest

Mortal Kombat: Conquest leans on the franchise’s fighting-world mythology more than on polished television storytelling, so it is mainly for fans who already know the Mortal Kombat name and want a serialized take on that universe. By our assessment, its real appeal is the use of recognizable lore, martial-arts energy, and comic-book seriousness rather than subtle character writing. The downside is that it lives close to genre TV with a narrow budget feel, where the spectacle matters more than smooth drama. In practice it has the rough, earnest texture of action television trying to stretch game material into episodes. Compared with the games, it has to slow the violence down into plot; compared with better-known action series, it is more niche and less polished. Mortal Kombat: Conquest works as a franchise extension, not as a broad entry point, and it keeps circling the same martial tone until the format shows through.
