Masters of Sex

Masters of Sex is built around a subject that could easily turn dry, and it keeps finding drama in the awkwardness, vanity, and tenderness around sex research. By our assessment, it is strongest when it treats private life and professional ambition as things that keep tripping over each other. The downside is that the premise is specialized, so the show can feel talky and controlled rather than sweeping. In practice it plays like a serious relationship drama with an unusual institutional setting, not a flashy medical series. Compared with broader prestige dramas, it is more focused on conversation and social detail than on big plot turns. The name fits viewers who want adult character writing and are fine with measured pace, and it is less suited to anyone looking for easy comfort or fast momentum.
