Lie to Me* is a crime drama for viewers who like cases solved through faces, pauses, and the little tells people cannot quite hide. By our assessment, the appeal is the show’s central idea of reading microexpressions and body language instead of relying only on the usual interrogation routine. That makes it feel sharper than a generic procedural when it is working well, because every conversation carries a second layer. The trade-off is that the premise can feel schematic if the episode leans too hard on the trick. In practice it sits between detective TV and a psychology lesson, with Tim Roth’s performance doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Compared with standard network crime shows, it has a clearer hook and a more specialized flavor, and that keeps it memorable even when the formula shows through.
