Jeeves & Wooster

Jeeves & Wooster is the kind of adaptation that lives on manners, class comedy, and a very polished servant-master double act. By our assessment, its real strength is the verbal comedy: the scripts can make even a small social problem feel elaborate because Jeeves stays cool while Wooster blunders through everything. The trade-off is that the whole pleasure depends on this style of wit, so if the period wit and upper-class farce do not land, there is not much else underneath. In practice it is light, tidy, and carefully paced, with the joke often sitting in the reaction rather than the event. Compared with broader sitcoms, it is more mannered and less rowdy. Jeeves & Wooster is for viewers who enjoy period comedy and wordplay, and it is not much use if a faster, rougher laugh is the goal.
