By our assessment, its best material is the making itself, because the show can be genuinely interesting when it stays with the labour behind the outfits. The weakness is the familiar reality-TV frame, which can push the personal drama harder than the craft. In practice it is a backstage show about presentation, competition, and identity in public, with a lot of time spent on whether the costume will hold together. Compared with documentary work on cosplay, it is more packaged and more networked, less patient with pure process. Heroes of Cosplay is strongest when it treats making as the point and weakest when it chases bigger reality-show conflict.
