Dharma & Greg

Dharma & Greg is built on the odd-couple clash of a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up lawyer, and most of its jokes come from that domestic mismatch. By our assessment, the show’s charm is in the light social friction: it likes class habits, parents, and manners more than big plot machinery. The limit is obvious, because once the setup is established the series has to keep finding new versions of the same cultural joke. In practice it is breezy, studio-comedy television with a very familiar rhythm. Compared with sharper relationship sitcoms, it is softer and more conventional, with less bite and less surprise. Dharma & Greg is for people who want an easy adult sitcom with opposites under one roof, and not for anyone looking for a harder edge or much complexity. The premise carries the whole show, and that is also where it stays.
