BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman begins like an animated comedy and keeps revealing itself as one of the sharper TV dramas about depression, addiction, fame, and self-avoidance. By our assessment, its real strength is how it lets jokes, animal gags, and celebrity satire sit next to scenes that land hard emotionally. It can be funny in a blunt, ugly way, then turn around and make the damage feel very ordinary and very close. The downside is also part of the design: the show is emotionally demanding and often uncomfortable, especially when it stops letting BoJack hide behind wit. In practice, it feels fast, crowded, and then suddenly still when a scene needs to hurt. Compared with ordinary adult animation, it is far more serious about consequences and character fallout. BoJack Horseman is for viewers who want animation with real dramatic weight, and not for anyone looking for easy comfort. The series keeps its best trick in plain sight: it uses comedy to make the pain easier to notice, not easier to dismiss.
