Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica is space drama that treats survival, politics, religion, and fear as one long emergency. By our assessment, its real strength is the pressure-cooker feel: the fleet, the chase, and the sense that every choice has a cost make it much heavier than a simple sci-fi adventure. The downside is that its seriousness can be relentless, and for some viewers the constant strain is the whole point and the whole burden at once. In practice it asks for attention, because the moral arguments and shifting loyalties matter as much as the ships and battles. Compared with cleaner space opera, Battlestar Galactica is less glossy and far more anxious, and that is what gives it weight.
