American Horror Story

American Horror Story is a seasonal horror anthology, so it matters less as one continuing plot than as a machine for changing masks. By our assessment, it is for viewers who enjoy horror ideas repackaged each season: haunted houses, cult pressure, grotesque characters, and a lot of style around the fear. Its strength is variety, because the anthology form lets it jump between subgenres and tones instead of staying in one lane. The downside is that this same format can make the show uneven, with seasons people like very differently and no single standard shape. In practice it feels broad, restless, and often more committed to atmosphere than to tidy logic. Compared with straight horror series, it has more camp and more reinvention, which is part of the appeal. The Astrina catalogue files American Horror Story under Drama, and that broad label fits the way it mixes horror with character drama.
