Above and Beyond

Above and Beyond sits in the lane of relationship-heavy drama, the kind that depends on emotions, tension, and long looks between people rather than on action. By our assessment, its appeal would come from that serious, scene-by-scene focus, which is exactly what drama viewers usually want. The limit is just as clear: if the writing does not give those exchanges enough shape, the whole thing can feel flat very quickly. In practice, this kind of show asks for attention to small shifts in mood and to how characters carry private conflict in ordinary settings. It is closer to the sober end of television drama than to anything broad or noisy. Astrina files Above and Beyond under Drama, and that is the only solid place to stand when judging it.
