placemat

A placemat gives a plate and glass a defined spot while helping protect the table from crumbs, light spills and warm dishes. The name alone does not establish whether this one is cloth, plastic, cork or another material, and that matters: each has different cleaning needs and tolerance for heat. As a product category, placemats are simple table coverings rather than substitutes for a heatproof trivet. By our assessment, the idea is practical for everyday meals, especially where an easy-to-wipe surface is useful, but there is no basis here to judge this particular one’s size, grip or durability. Its usefulness depends on the material and how easily that surface can be cleaned after food spills.
