Yellow Duck is the sort of toy or decorative object that works because everyone instantly reads the shape: a duck, bright and simple, with no explanation needed. By our assessment, that plainness is its strength, since it fits bath time, nursery shelves, or novelty gift contexts without asking for attention. The downside is just as plain: it does one visual joke and very little else, so the appeal depends entirely on liking that familiar duck form.
