By our assessment, its best quality is the easy open-ended play: one link becomes a longer line, then a loop, then a little cluster, with no instructions needed. The drawback is that this kind of toy depends on repetition, so it can feel more like a quick activity than a toy with lasting depth. In hand it is all about joining, separating, and making a bit of colour move across the table. Compared with building blocks, it is lighter and less demanding; compared with a puzzle, it is far less structured.
