The trade-off is that this same ruggedness usually means a firmer ride and less polish than a car-based crossover, so it feels built to be used rather than pampered. In practice the Hilux is about durability, load space, and a no-nonsense cab, which is why it turns up in fleets, trades, farms, and remote places. It sits above soft-road SUVs and below heavier commercial trucks, right in the middle of the serious utility pickup class.
