Step Down Transformer

A Step Down Transformer is the plain electrical box people use when a device needs a lower mains voltage than the wall supply provides. By our assessment, it is good at one specific job: making incompatible voltage levels match so a piece of equipment can run safely in the right range. The honest downside is that it only solves voltage, not plug shape, wattage limits or broader compatibility, so it is the sort of accessory that has to be matched carefully to the load. In practice it is an unglamorous utility item, usually bought when moving equipment between regions or using imported gear.
