Spinner toy

Spinner toy is a simple plaything for younger children, and its appeal comes from motion rather than rules or batteries. By our assessment, that is also its strength: a child can watch it turn, press it, or bat it again and again with very little explanation needed. The limit is just as plain, because the fun is narrow and repetitive, so older children usually move on quickly. In practice these toys are about hand movement, cause and effect, and a short attention span; they live or die on how smoothly they spin. Compared with more structured toys, it is the low-complexity end of the pile. It works best as a small sensory distraction and nothing grander than that.
