By our assessment, its strength is the compact retractable format: it keeps slack down and is meant to move with the user instead of leaving a long loose lanyard in the way. The trade-off is that this kind of gear asks for proper anchorage, inspection and correct matching with the rest of the fall protection system, so it is not casual equipment. In practice it is a piece of site kit with a clear job and very little romance about it. Compared with a simple lanyard, it is the more controlled option, but also the one that depends more on being used exactly as intended.
