Quiet Book

Quiet Book asks for patience in a way most products do not: it is a soft activity book for young children, usually built around buttons, flaps, zips, laces, and other hands-on pieces. By our assessment, that tactile variety is the point, because it helps occupy small hands without a screen and can be useful for learning basic motor skills. The downside is built into the format: these books can be fiddly to clean, easy to lose pieces from, and not very exciting once the novelty of the activities wears off. In practice, it is a toy that depends on repeated attention from an adult and on the child liking slow, repetitive play. It sits between a board book and a busy bag, more controlled than loose toys and less flexible than a pile of random activities. Quiet Book makes most sense for short stretches of calm play and travel, and it is less convincing if someone wants a story with a beginning and end rather than a set of tasks.
