The trade-off is obvious: it is still a tiny LED source, so it cannot replace a bigger lamp or soften a face in the same way. In practice these lights are simple, clip-on tools that sit near the camera and throw a narrow pool of light, which is useful but not flattering in every situation. Compared with ring lights or panel lights, this is the compact, less serious option, and that is exactly the point. The ceiling is modest, and the result depends on distance, angle, and how dark the room is.
