Lollitop

Lollitop looks like a small sweet, but as a product it reads more like a toyish snack item or confectionery brand than a single clearly defined thing. By our assessment, that makes it hard to judge as strongly as a standard, well-described category item, because the name by itself does not tell you enough about flavour, format or use. The upside is that such products usually sell on simple appeal: bright presentation, easy handling and a casual treat feel. The downside is the same vagueness, since a buyer has to know what version is being sold before the name means much at all. In practice, that kind of item sits between impulse candy and novelty product, which is a busy shelf and a crowded field. It is the sort of thing that makes sense when the packaging does the explaining, not the name alone.
