Harley-Davidson Pan America is the brand’s adventure motorcycle for riders who want a tall, road-biased machine that can also leave the pavement behind for a while. By our assessment, its big strength is that it translates Harley into a very different job: long-distance comfort, upright ergonomics and a touring shape that makes sense for mixed roads. The trade-off is that it is still a large adventure bike, so it asks for size, reach and confidence at low speeds more than a smaller dual-sport would. In practice the Pan America is about wind protection, suspension travel and a riding position that stays useful after the first hour. It sits against BMW’s GS-style rivals and other big adventure tourers, not against cruiser Harleys at all. Harley-Davidson Pan America is for riders who want the badge in a very different form, and who are comfortable with the extra bulk that comes with that idea.
