Hairpin is a simple small accessory for holding back loose hair, and that is exactly where it earns its place. By our assessment, it is best when you want quick control without the bulk of a clip or the grip of a band. The trade-off is obvious: it does not hold a heavy or slippery style very securely, and it can slide if the hair is fine. In practice it is a light, quiet object that disappears into the hair and is easy to carry in a pocket or bag. Compared with clips and elastic bands, it does less and asks less, which is the point. It suits people who want a minimal way to pin hair in place for a while, and it is not the answer for a strong all-day hold.
