FAIRY LIGHTS

FAIRY LIGHTS are the string of tiny bulbs people use to soften a room, wrap a window, or push a bit of light into a dark corner. By our assessment, they work best at atmosphere: they give quick warmth without the fuss of a lamp or a full fixture. The trade-off is obvious too, because they are decorative first, so they do not replace proper lighting and can feel a little flimsy if treated as everyday illumination. In practice they are the sort of thing that changes a space fast and then quietly sits there doing one job. Compared with candles, they are safer and far less fussy; compared with a normal light, they are much less serious. That is why people reach for them when the goal is mood, not task light, and why they are a poor pick if a room actually needs brightness.
