The limitation is built in: a travel adapter changes the shape of the plug, not the voltage or the power rules of the device. In daily use it is a small piece of plastic and metal that lives in a bag until the moment a charger, shaver, or laptop brick needs it. Compared with a full power converter, it is simpler and lighter; compared with a bare plug shape change, it still depends on whether the device can handle the local electricity. It is for trips, temporary stays, and mixed plug standards, not for making incompatible appliances safe by magic. The best thing about it is how little thought it asks for once the right standard is understood.
