Can-Am Traxter, Defender is the sort of side-by-side people use when work comes before comfort and the ground is rough, muddy or uneven. By our assessment, its real strength is utility: a cargo bed, sturdy chassis and the ability to crawl through places where a normal road vehicle simply does not belong. The downside is that these machines are noisy, exposed and awkward for relaxed travel, so they trade comfort for toughness very openly. In practice they feel like small farm or worksite tools with seats, not like recreational cars pretending to be rugged. Against ATVs they bring more carrying ability and a more stable stance, while against regular utility vehicles they are much more specialised. It is the right kind of machine for property work, trail maintenance and similar jobs, and the wrong one for anyone expecting a quiet enclosed cabin.
