Bing is a search engine and web portal for people who want to look things up, search images, use maps, or stay inside Microsoft’s ecosystem of services. By our assessment, it is strongest when someone wants a mainstream search tool with image search, video search, news, maps, and shopping results all in one place. The downside is the familiar one for big search platforms: results can feel crowded with extra modules, and the whole thing is less neutral-looking than a bare search box. In practice Bing is a polished, busy interface that tries to answer a query with more than one kind of result. Compared with Google, it is the second giant in the category; compared with smaller engines, it is much broader and more integrated. It suits people who like Microsoft products or want a full-featured search page, and it is less attractive if they want the thinnest possible search experience.
