Beach Toys

Beach Toys are the blunt, practical side of sand play: buckets, spades, moulds, little scoops, maybe a net or a ball, all made to be dragged through sand and rinsed off later. By our assessment, their strength is obvious — they turn a patch of beach or sandbox into something a child can build with, and they do it without much instruction. The limit is just as obvious, because cheap beach sets can crack, fade, or lose pieces quickly, and they are usually seasonal rather than long-lived playthings. In use they are messy in the best way, full of carrying, pouring, pressing, and knocking shapes out of damp sand. Compared with indoor toys, they are more disposable and weather-tied; compared with complex toy kits, they are simple on purpose. They are for children and family trips to sand and surf, and less for anyone hoping for durable, year-round play material.
