By our assessment, its main virtue is speed and convenience: point it at a surface or body area, get a reading, move on. The limit is familiar for infrared thermometers in general, because results depend on distance, surface conditions, and whether the target is actually suited to infrared measurement. In practice it is a simple handheld device with little ceremony, but it also asks for basic care and correct use if the reading is meant to mean anything. Compared with a classic probe thermometer, it is faster and less invasive, yet less forgiving when the setup is sloppy.
