Zahedan Prison

Zahedan Prison is a prison, so it is for confinement and custody rather than for the public in the usual sense. By our assessment, its main meaning is the blunt one: it names a place of detention, which is a hard and specific thing, not a vague institution. The trade-off is that the name carries very little positive texture for an outsider; it is defined by function, control, and restriction. In practice, a prison is about rules, supervision, and daily routine under constraint, not comfort or openness. Against courts, police stations, or reform programs, it belongs to the custody side of the system, not the civic or rehabilitative side. Zahedan Prison is therefore judged as a stark administrative place, and that starkness is the whole point of its name.
