Visa

Visa is the payment network behind cards that move money between banks, merchants, and cardholders rather than a bank account brand itself. By our assessment, it is excellent at one boring but important job: making card payments work almost everywhere, online and in stores, through a huge global acceptance network. The trade-off is that Visa is infrastructure, not a bank, so it does not give you a card by itself and it does not set every fee or benefit on the plastic in your wallet. In practice most people only notice it when a terminal accepts the card, a checkout runs smoothly, or a travel purchase clears without fuss. It sits alongside Mastercard as one of the two dominant card networks, and it matters more for reach than for personality. If someone wants plain, reliable card acceptance, Visa is the name that usually appears on the front of the process. The company is based in the United States.
