Uber

Uber is the ride-hailing app people reach for when they want a car without calling a dispatcher, plus food delivery in many places through Uber Eats. By our assessment, its main strength is the same on both sides of the service: the app makes booking, tracking, payment, and receipts straightforward, and the marketplace is broad enough that a driver is often nearby in dense cities. The downside is built into the model, since pricing can move around and service quality depends on local drivers, traffic, and regulations. Using it feels like asking a phone to do a taxi desk’s job, except with more maps, notifications, and little waiting-room friction. It sits above old-school taxi calling in convenience, but it is not a substitute for a human dispatcher or for fixed-price transit. People who want fast booking and cashless payment will get the most from it; the ones who need certainty about price or vehicle class may not. The company is based in the United States.
