SGAM belongs to the kind of finance name that looks like an acronym first and a company second. By our assessment, it has the feel of an asset-manager or investment-house shorthand, the sort used in professional circles where the full legal name matters less than the brand mark. That can be efficient inside the market, but from the outside it is nearly opaque and gives away very little about what the firm actually does. In practice, acronym names like this are often terse, institutional, and not especially welcoming to newcomers.
