Royal Marsden Hospital

Royal Marsden Hospital is the specialist cancer hospital people turn to for oncology, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and the long, careful follow-up that cancer treatment demands. By our assessment, its main strength is focus: everything about it is organized around cancer care, so the expertise is concentrated rather than spread thinly. That is exactly what makes a dedicated cancer hospital valuable. The downside is also part of the bargain — it is not a general hospital, and it does not try to be one. In practice, that means a highly structured setting, repeated visits, and treatment that often runs over time rather than in a single episode. Royal Marsden Hospital sits near the top of specialist cancer care in the UK, and the people who benefit most are those who need a centre built around oncology rather than general medicine.
