RBS SECURITIES INC sits in the same investment-banking lane as other securities arms: brokerage, underwriting, and market work for corporate and institutional clients. By our assessment, the name promises a serious finance operation, but the ordinary downside is that this sort of firm stays remote from everyday banking and is hard to judge without concrete services in front of you. In practice, it is the kind of company people meet in deal paperwork more than in a branch. That narrow, specialist role is the whole point of it.
