Quanta Computer

Quanta Computer is the quiet factory side of the laptop and server business, the sort of company brands lean on when they need large-scale electronics built to specification. By our assessment, its strength is manufacturing discipline: assembly, volume production, and the ability to make complex hardware at industrial scale. The downside is that contract manufacturing is thin on glamour and thin on control, because the final brand gets the attention. In practice, Quanta Computer is about long production runs, tight logistics, and meeting another company’s design. It sits with the big Taiwanese electronics manufacturers that power much of the global device market. That is a useful position, but it is still a supplier’s position.
