Modern Bank, National Association tries to sound current, but the real job is still the classic one: taking deposits, making loans, and handling everyday banking needs for households and businesses. By our assessment, that gap between the name and the work is the most interesting thing about it. The upside of a name like this is its clean, direct signal that the bank wants to look contemporary; the downside is that the promise is broad and a little generic. In practice, such banks live in account openings, loan paperwork, and routine customer contact rather than in anything flashy. It belongs with other straightforward banks that sell reliability and basic access to money, not a new kind of finance. Modern Bank, National Association is best treated as a conventional bank with a current-sounding label.
