Majid Al Futtaim

Majid Al Futtaim is best known as a retail and property group around malls, supermarkets and leisure brands, so people usually meet it through the places it operates rather than a single product. By our assessment, its strength is control of the whole setting: shopping centres, grocery chains and other consumer-facing assets that let it shape an everyday retail environment. The trade-off is that this kind of company lives on scale and management, which can make it feel remote and spread across many lines of business. In practice it is the sort of firm that shows up in the background of daily life, especially in big-city retail across the Gulf. It sits closer to a landlord-and-operator model than to a pure shop brand, and that changes how it behaves. The Astrina catalogue records it in the United Arab Emirates.
