Magna

Magna is a big auto-parts supplier, the sort of company carmakers rely on for seats, bodies, mirrors and other systems rather than glossy showroom pieces. By our assessment, its strength is scale: it makes the unglamorous hardware that has to fit, repeat and hold up across many vehicle programs. The trade-off is that this is a tough business to read from the outside, because the work is embedded deep in supply chains and the public brand is much smaller than the footprint. In practice it sits somewhere between industrial engineering and manufacturing muscle, where margins and contracts matter more than flash. Compared with a car brand, Magna is less visible but often more central to how vehicles are put together. The Astrina catalogue places Magna in Canada, and that fits the way it is usually spoken about as a large Canadian auto supplier.
